FROM TOMORROW ON AT THE REFUGIUM (BERLIN AS A DESIGN PRINCIPLE) EXHIBITION, THE MUST-SEE EVENT OF THE BERLIN DESIGN WEEK: Hybrid Space Lab: Simple City/Crash 3
Founded by Elizabeth Sikiaridi and Frans Vogelaar, respectively of Greek and Dutch origin, Hybrid Space Lab is a think tank and interdisciplinary environment where architects, urbanists, landscape architects, designers and media artists collaborate with engineers in the development of projects for combined urban, architectural, design and media spaces. Focusing on the hybrid fields emerging through the fusion of environments, objects and services today, and handling an innovative integrated approach, the scope of its projects ranges from urban games, to buildings and architectural interiors, 1:1 industrial design applications and wearables.
Simple City is a modular installation that embodies the serially produced, globally ubiquitous generic city – along with its dynamics, discontinuities and fractures. Adapting to the hosting venue, it also offers an environment for interactive collaboration and communication of process-oriented urban and architectural projects. Built with high-quality prints and models made out of Lego bricks, and previously shown in Cologne and Seoul, a choice of projects by Hybrid Space Lab are being presented within the framework of the Refugium version – such as City Kit and DIY Pavilion.
