SOON AT THE REFUGIUM :: FORMFJORD: XIX LIGHT

Using OLED panels and created for Japanese OLED manufacturer Kaneka, this playful collection of small lights provides a kaleidoscopic, multifaceted illumination that enters into a dialogue with the brightness of its environment. Sandwiched between geometric cut glass triangles, the thin OLED panels are secured within an aluminum metal frame – creating pyramidal solid bodies, monolithic object that illuminate from within while discretely hiding the electroluminescent layers of technology, while the triangular surfaces reflecting various shades of color. An asteroid, a crystal or a precious diamond? The glittering composition and shape leave the observer plenty of room for imagination. Formfjord are Fabian Baumann (*1977), who studied Mechanical Engineering at TU-Berlin and Industrial Design Engineering at TU-Delft, and Sönke Hoof (*1972), who studied Industrial Design at Kunsthochschule Weissensee Berlin after his apprenticeship as upholsterer. The Berlin-based studio was founded in 2006. Image © Michael Tewes.
